The Skaneateles Ecumenical Food Pantry is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides food and other necessities to those in need in the Skaneateles community.
The Food Pantry is a free and confidential service for residents of the Village and Town of Skaneateles and the Skaneateles School District. Meals for three days per person are provided at each weekly visit for families and individuals in need. The Pantry relies on donations and is fully volunteer-run. The Pantry is a partner agency of the Food Bank of Central New York, which supplies food and training to help it fulfill its mission.
History of the Ecumenical Food Pantry
Local churches first started and hosted the pantry. Today, the churches, along with other community members, support the pantry with donations and other resources, including volunteers. The pantry outgrew its original church space and is now housed at the Skaneateles school district’s bus garage at 819 West Genesee St. Road (entrance on the south side of the building) in Skaneateles. Phone calls to reach the pantry are answered at the Skaneateles First Presbyterian Church, 315-685-5048 during business hours, Monday through Friday.
The Food Pantry is a non-profit organization overseen by a board of directors. Volunteers operate behind the scenes to gather both refrigerated and nonperishable food donations and stock the pantry. When the pantry is open, trained volunteers greet and assist neighbors who choose food for their families. Confidentiality and respect are integral to the process.
